ONC Office of National Coordinator For Health IT

The United States Office Of The National (ONC) Coordinator for Health IT organizes implementation of Federal priorities related to health care information technology.  This involves-

-Adaptation of health information technologies
-Promote Nation wide exchange of health information

This is a bridge from research and development to proper insertion in to the operating health care system delivery process to improve care.  This is a top down approach to expand definitions of care and strengthen innovation as an acceptable intervention to promote healing across large geographical areas.

The United States Office of National Coordinator for Health IT formed a department through HITECH legislation signed as executive order in 2004.  This department functions within the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
